Minister of Health Visits Kraken Sense at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority

On February 27, 2023, Kraken Sense had the privilege of hosting a visit by The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health, and Kamal Khera, MP, at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA). This visit was a significant recognition of Kraken Sense's innovative technology and our role in supporting public health and safety.

Kraken Sense is partnering with the GTAA as part of a study funded by the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program. The study focuses on testing airport wastewater for Monkeypox and Omicron, a variant of SARS-CoV-2. With the constant flow of travelers in the airport, rapid pathogen detection is crucial to controlling disease outbreaks from outside the country.

Our pathogen detection device, the KRAKEN, is fully autonomous, using real-time PCR technology to monitor liquid-based samples for bacteria and viruses. The KRAKEN delivers quantitative results in under an hour, ensuring public health authorities can be alerted of potential contamination in real-time. With the ability to identify specific variants, this collaboration with GTAA has the potential to make a real impact on disease monitoring globally.

KRAKEN is the first real-time pathogen detection platform that can provide continuous monitoring for potential pathogen surges, keeping our borders safe and secure against emerging disease outbreaks. Our mission is to make pathogen detection quick, easy, and accessible for everyone, and this collaboration is a crucial step towards making that a reality.

Kraken Sense is deeply honored to have been visited by the Minister of Health and MP Kamal Khera, and is proud to participate in such an important initiative to help health authorities keep the public safe. This visit is a testament to the importance of our work in supporting public health and safety, and it further motivates us to continue our efforts to develop cutting-edge technology to protect against disease threats.

About Kraken Sense

Kraken Sense develops all-in-one pathogen detection solutions to accelerate time to results by replacing lab testing with a single field-deployable device. Our proprietary device, the KRAKEN, has the ability to detect bacteria and viruses down to 1 copy/mL. It has already been applied for epidemiology detection in wastewater and microbial contamination testing in food processing, among many other applications. Our team of highly-skilled Microbiologists and Engineers tailor the system to fit individual project needs.
